The Difference Between 5600 and 7000 Series Softeners

With so many water treatment options available, we are often asked what the difference is between the many systems we carry.  The answer may be simple, or a bit complicated, depending on the systems in question.  Systems are mostly differentiated by their control valves, but other variables like tank style and filter media can also determine a system’s function and capabilities.  One reader recently asked us to explain the difference between our 5600 series water softeners and our 7000 series softeners, so we thought we’d post our answer here for any other readers who may be wondering the same.

The Fleck 7000 control valve is a digital, high-flow, high-pressure valve that can be used for a wide range of applications, including light commercial systems.  It features large internal ports, a full-port bypass, and a bigger distributor tube design than other standard valves.  While the Fleck 7000 is a good, reliable valve, we don’t often recommend it for use as a softener because its internal parts can be rather tricky to access and service.  As such, customers who want to use a Fleck 7000 in a softener system should be prepared to invest more time and energy into maintaining it.

  • Distributor pilot 1.05″ or 32 mm
  • Drain line 3/4″ or 1″ NPT Quick Connect
  • Brine line 3/8″ or 1/2″ Quick Connect
  • Mounting base 2-1/2″ – 8 NPSM
  • Height from top of tank 7.9″

The Fleck 5600, on the other hand, is a decades-old design that has been largely unchanged over time.  It is available in analog and digital models: the analog model is programmed with a mechanical dial, while the digital model uses the same programming as the Fleck 7000.  This valve is a lot smaller than the Fleck 7000, but is easier to service and maintain due to its externally located brine valve.
