CWS Ozone Generators
Heavy Duty Corona Discharge Ozone Bubbler Package
Q. How do I install it to bubble ozone into my cistern or storage tank?
A. This ozone generator is designed to bubble ozone gas in non-pressurized storage tanks or cisterns. Attach the tubing and diffuser stone and hang diffuser stone so it is approximately 1 to 2 feet above bottom of the storage tank. Adjust timer to desired setting and turn on.
Q. How large a tank will this work with, and how far away from the storage tank can I install the ozone generator?
A. The ozone generator with the built-in air pump will work with tanks up to 6 feet high. The ozone generator must be installed within 6 feet of the storage tank. If your tank is larger, or you are installing the ozone further away from the tank, you would need to use a larger compressor (sold separately).
Q. I don't have a storage tank, I only have a well pump and pressure tank. How can I ozonate my water without installing a storage tank?
A. In this application we recommend our Ozone Contact Tank Recirc System. This is a pressurized system that allows you to have ozonated water under pressure.
Q. Do I need the optional Air Dryer Cartridges?
A. Unless you live in an area of very low humidity, we do recommend the air dryer cartridges.
A. Unless you live in an area of very low humidity, we do recommend the air dryer cartridges.
Q. How is ozone gas produced?
A. Ozone generators produce ozone by adding energy to oxygen (O2), which cause the oxygen atoms to break apart and temporarily recombine with other O2 molecules creating ozone (O3). This process occurs inside the ozone cell by pulling air (or pure oxygen in some cases) through a high voltage plasma chamber.
Q. Why do ozone generators need dry air?
A. Ozone is created from the oxygen in air. Air is mostly nitrogen (78%) and in the presence of moisture nitric acid can be created. This can cause corrosion of the ozone generator, and in some cases create nitrate (a contaminant) in water. This ozone generator uses a ceramic cell which is corrosion resistant but it is still a good idea to make sure the air being drawn in low in moisture and humidity.
Q. What is the difference between the air dryer cartridges and the optional Oxygen Generator?
A. The air dryers will dry the air, but the amount of oxygen in air is about 21 percent. The oxygen generator separates the oxygen from the nitrogen and dispels the nitrogen back into the air as well as drying the oxygen. If you feed the ozone generator pure oxygen it is not only dry it allows you to produce 2 to 3 times the amount of ozone.
Q. How long do the air dryer cartridges last?
A. This depends on the relative humidity and the hours per day you run the ozone generator, but the air dryers generally last for 4 to 6 months if you are running the ozone generator several hours a day.
Q. How will I know when it is time to change the air dryer cartridges?
A. The cartridges come in two types, one is blue and one is white. We recommend a white one followed by a blue one in series. When the blue one starts to turn pink it is time to replace or dry out the cartridges.
Q. How do I dry the dryer cartridges?
A. You can unscrew and dump out the dryer granules on a baking sheet and dry in a 300F oven for one hour and re-use the granules at least several times, if desired.
Q. How long does the Oxygen Generator last?
A. It also depends on relative humidity and number of hours used, but it generally lasts for 4 to 6 years before needing the internal sieve beds (the media that separates the oxygen and nitrogen). It is easy to service and does not require any special tools. If the Oxygen Generator is in a dusty area, we recommend the external air filter be replaced yearly.
Q. How long will the Ozone Generator last?
A. It has a one year warranty, however it will last for years and is very easy to service and work on if needed. The ceramic cell can be replaced (about $400) if needed, but it lasts for 4 to 5 years.
Q. Does it need regular service?
A. The ozone generator does not need routine maintenance other than making sure it has dry air.
Q. Will the ozone kill bacteria?
A. Ozone is a very powerful disinfectant and will kill bacteria, however you need sufficient contact time and a minimum amount of ozone residual in the water for this to occur. If your water is high in coliform bacteria we recommend the ozone system be followed by a Nano-Ceram bacteria filter, which will filter out any bacteria as well as dead bacteria bodies (pyrogens).
Q. After the water is ozonated, do I need to filter it?
A. This depends on the water chemistry. If your water has dissolved iron, manganese, or other contaminants that can be oxidized your water might need filtration. A typical ozone system for well water high in iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide gas (rotten egg odor) uses a Pro-OX Iron Filter followed by a Catalytic Activated Carbon backwash system. However if your water has no iron or manganese a carbon backwash filter is sufficient. If you only want to remove light odors no filtration might be needed.
Q. I have questions about a particular application, can I email you?
A. Yes please email us at [email protected] and send water test information and any questions you may have.
