Contact Tank
Sizing Calculator

Calculate the size of retention/contact tank needed for chlorine or hydrogen peroxide to fully react with contaminants before filtration. Proper contact time is critical for effective treatment.

Installation Tips

Inlet/Outlet: Water enters at the bottom and exits at the top for maximum contact time (plug-flow design).
Multiple tanks: For larger volumes, use two or more tanks in series rather than one oversized tank — this ensures more uniform contact time.
Pipe sizing: Connect with same size piping as your main line. Don't restrict flow at the tank connections.
Formula: Tank volume (gallons) = Flow rate (GPM) × Contact time (minutes). In practice, you need about 25% more volume than calculated because tanks aren't 100% efficient at plug flow — water can short-circuit through the tank.
