Micron Rating Guide
50 micron: Coarse — sand, grit, large particles. First-stage pre-filter for very dirty water. 20 micron: Medium — fine sand, rust flakes, visible particles. Good general pre-filter. 5 micron: Fine — silt, small rust, cloudiness. Standard whole-house filter. Required before UV. 1 micron: Very fine — removes most visible turbidity, cysts. Higher pressure drop.
