Investing in a whole-house water system is a big decision, and you don’t want to be left wondering what happens if it doesn’t work.
At Clean Water Store, we’ve helped thousands of homeowners solve tough water challenges, and we back every system with clear return and warranty policies. We think it’s important not to just highlight the good but also to talk about what happens if things don’t work out.
That’s why in this article, you’ll learn exactly what those policies cover, how they work, and the steps to take if your system isn’t performing as expected.
Clean Water Store’s warranty protects your investment against defects in materials and workmanship for the long term. Clean Water Store and the original manufacturers back each system’s high-quality components. Here’s what we cover for each major part of your system:
For the first 12 months after installation, Clean Water Store covers all system parts and shipping costs if a defect occurs. This includes any valves, fittings, tanks, or internal components found to be defective due to manufacturing or material issues. If something fails within this period through no fault of your own, we’ll replace it at no cost to you — including shipping.
Our fiberglass, polyglass, or composite mineral tanks used in residential softener and filtration systems are warranted for life against defects in materials and workmanship. This covers issues such as cracking or leaking that occur under normal, protected indoor use. It does not cover external impact, freezing, vacuum damage, or exposure to sunlight or weather
Commercial-size tanks (typically 14 inches or larger) are covered for five years. This warranty includes protection against defects that result from normal use in properly installed systems. Like residential tanks, it excludes damage caused by freezing, weather, or external impact.
Automatic control valves are covered for five years against defects in materials or workmanship. This means the warranty covers internal valve parts, seals, and electronic controls if they fail under normal operating conditions. Damage from power surges, improper wiring, or exposure to the elements is excluded
During the warranty period, defective parts must be returned (freight prepaid) for inspection and replacement. Clean Water Store will repair or replace any part found to be defective under warranty conditions. Labor for installation or replacement is not included.
In short, your warranty ensures that if any covered component fails under normal use, Clean Water Store will stand behind it — replacing the defective part and covering shipping costs during the first year, and continuing to honor tank and valve coverage for years to come.
Yes. You can return many of our most popular systems, such as iron filters, even after installation, as long as it’s within the six-month window. Our return policy gives you confidence to try a system at home, knowing you still have options if it doesn’t meet your needs.
Special-order items cannot be returned. These products are clearly marked on their product pages, so you’ll know before you buy. Look for labels such as:
Items like chlorine pellets also cannot be returned due to FedEx and UPS regulations.
If you’re unsure whether an item is considered a special order, check the product’s Description or Warranty tabs before purchasing, or contact us for confirmation.
The customer always pays return shipping costs. In addition, some products may have a restocking fee of up to 25% of the product’s value, depending on the type of system and its condition upon return. Each product page lists any applicable fees before purchase, so you always know what to expect.
Starting a return with Clean Water Store is simple. Begin by contacting our support team and providing your order number along with a brief description of the issue. In many cases, our technicians can resolve the problem right away by walking you through a quick troubleshooting process. Often, a simple adjustment to the system’s settings or a replacement part is all that’s needed to get things working correctly.
If we can’t fix the issue remotely, our team authorizes the return and sends detailed shipping instructions. After we receive and inspect your system, we process your refund minus any applicable restocking fees listed on the product page.
Clean Water Store’s warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship but does not include damage caused by environmental conditions, neglect, or misuse. Here’s what that means in practical terms:
To keep your warranty valid and your system running smoothly, make sure it’s installed in a protected space such as a basement, garage, or pump house and maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Every whole-house system includes sample bottles to verify results after installation. Once your system has been running for 1–2 weeks:
Clean Water Store’s Water Tech Team provides hands-on support to ensure your system is working exactly as it should. When a customer reaches out with a concern, our technicians start by reviewing the system’s setup and performance data to identify the root cause.
Our team quickly resolves most issues by adjusting system settings or replacing small parts covered under warranty. If you need extra help, we guide you through each step remotely to restore your system’s performance without delay.
If your system still doesn’t perform as intended after troubleshooting and you’re within the six-month return window, our 6-month satisfaction guarantee covers you.
You came here wondering what happens if your water system doesn’t work, and now you know exactly where you stand. Clean Water Store’s six-month return policy and comprehensive warranty coverage ensure that your investment is protected from day one.
It matters because buying a whole-house water system is a big decision, and you deserve to feel secure about your purchase. Every system is backed by clear policies, expert support, and real troubleshooting help—so you’re never left guessing or stuck with poor performance.
The best next step is to verify your system’s performance early. Use the sample bottles included with your order within the first two weeks to send in your before-and-after water tests.
