Questions

What size should I order for oxidizing iron, odors, or for mixing?

For most residential applications where you are injecting chlorine, peroxide, ozone, soda ash, or another chemical before a filtration system, the smaller contact tanks are often the most common choice. For typical home well systems flowing up to about 15 gallons per minute, a short contact time of 1 to 2 minutes often works well for mixing, odor control, and oxidation of iron or manganese before a filter system.

I have 3/4" piping. Is there a 3/4" size?

The 1" size can easily be adapted down to 3/4" using common reducer fittings available from plumbing suppliers and hardware stores.

What size should I get if I want to disinfect water?

This depends on pH, water temperature, flow rate, and the concentration of the chlorine, ozone, peroxide, or other oxidizer being injected. For disinfection, sizing is based on the required contact time at the system flow rate. Contact us for help with sizing if the tank will be used for disinfection.

Are these tanks certified?

Yes. These tanks are made with materials suitable for drinking water applications.

How important is a drain option? Do I really need a drain?

No, you do not always need a drain. A drain option is useful if you need to winterize the tank for freezing conditions, or if the water contains a lot of iron sludge, sand, or sediment and you want to drain the tank periodically. Otherwise, the top can be removed so the tank can be flushed as part of routine service.

Why would I need the optional vacuum relief valve?

These tanks are rated for pressure up to 125 PSI and are designed to last for many years. However, like most non-metallic pressure tanks, they can be damaged by vacuum conditions. If a well check valve fails and water drains backward down the well, the contact tank can be pulled into a vacuum and may partially collapse.

Vacuum-related damage is not covered by the tank warranty. While vacuum damage is rare, a lead-free vacuum relief valve is recommended as extra protection.
