Description
ResinTech CG10-Na 10% Crosslinked Water Softening Resin – 1 Cubic Foot
ResinTech CG10-Na is a high-durability strong acid cation exchange resin designed for demanding water treatment applications where long service life and physical stability are important. Manufactured with 10% divinylbenzene (DVB) crosslinking, this resin offers greater resistance to thermal stress, oxidation, and mechanical breakdown compared with standard 8% crosslinked softening resins.
This resin is supplied in the sodium form and is commonly used in water softeners to remove hardness minerals such as calcium and magnesium from water. By exchanging sodium ions for hardness minerals, the resin prevents scale buildup in plumbing systems, appliances, and water treatment equipment.
ResinTech CG10 is widely used in industrial, commercial, and residential water treatment systems where long-term durability and consistent performance are required.
Key Features and Benefits
10% Crosslinked Resin for Increased Durability
ResinTech CG10 contains 10% divinylbenzene crosslinking, providing improved resistance to oxidation, heat, and chemical attack. This higher crosslink structure helps extend resin life in demanding operating conditions.
High Crush Strength
With 93% minimum sphericity and high crush strength, the resin beads maintain their shape and structural integrity through repeated backwash and regeneration cycles.
Low Pressure Drop
Controlled particle size distribution allows water to flow easily through the resin bed while maintaining effective hardness removal.
Low Color Throw
The resin is manufactured and processed to minimize color release during system startup and operation.
FDA Compliant Materials
Manufactured in compliance with US FDA regulation 21 CFR 173.25, allowing use in potable water treatment applications.
WQA Gold Certified NSF 44
Tested and meets NSF 44 standard.
What This Resin Does
Water softening resin works through a process called ion exchange. As hard water flows through the resin bed, the resin beads exchange sodium ions for calcium and magnesium hardness minerals.
This process:
• Prevents scale buildup in plumbing and appliances
• Improves soap and detergent performance
• Protects water heaters, dishwashers, and fixtures
• Produces softer water throughout the home or facility
Once the resin becomes saturated with hardness minerals, it is regenerated using salt (sodium chloride) to restore its softening capacity.
8% vs 10% Crosslinked Water Softening Resin
Most residential water softeners use 8% crosslinked resin, which works well in typical household water conditions. However, 10% crosslinked resin such as ResinTech CG10 provides improved durability in more demanding applications.
The higher crosslinking level increases resistance to oxidation, heat, and mechanical wear, helping the resin maintain performance over more regeneration cycles.
| Feature | 8% Crosslinked Resin | 10% Crosslinked Resin |
|---|---|---|
| Typical Use | Residential softeners | Industrial and high-stress systems |
| Durability | Standard | Higher resistance to oxidation and degradation |
| Mechanical Strength | Good | Higher crush strength |
| Resin Life | Good | Longer in demanding conditions |
| Salt Efficiency | Slightly higher | Slightly lower |
While 8% resin is sufficient for many homes, 10% resin is often chosen where durability and extended resin life are the priority.
Typical Applications
ResinTech CG10 resin is commonly used in a variety of water treatment systems, including:
• Whole house water softeners
• Commercial and industrial softening systems
• Boiler feedwater treatment
• Demineralization systems
• High temperature water treatment processes
The hydrogen form of this resin (CG10-H) can be used in demineralization systems paired with anion exchange resin.

How Long Does Water Softener Resin Last?
Water softener resin gradually wears out after years of use due to mechanical stress, chemical exposure, and repeated regeneration cycles.
Most softener resin beds typically last:
10 to 15 years
Factors affecting resin life include:
• Water quality
• Regeneration frequency
• Temperature
• System maintenance
Higher crosslinked resins such as 10% DVB resin are designed to provide longer service life in demanding operating conditions.
Signs Your Water Softener Resin May Need Replacement
Over time, worn or degraded resin may no longer remove hardness effectively.
Common signs include:
• Hard water returning to the home
• Soap not lathering well
• Scale buildup on fixtures or appliances
• Reduced softener performance after regeneration
Replacing the resin can often restore the softener to near-new performance without replacing the entire system.
