Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. It uses upflow brining during regeneration. While it's softening your water, flow runs top to bottom like any softener. The upflow advantage happens during regeneration, when brine enters from the bottom.
During regeneration, brine enters from the bottom of the tank and flows up through the resin. It stays concentrated instead of being diluted on the way down, so the resin gets fully recharged with less salt and less water — up to 40% less than a conventional downflow softener. The upflow action also keeps the resin bed loose, so it regenerates evenly and lasts longer.
No. This softener is designed for city water. The upflow brine system uses a very small opening that can clog with the iron and sediment common in well water. If you're on a private well, choose one of our well water softeners.
No. A softener removes hardness, not chlorine. To remove chlorine or chloramine taste and odor, pair it with one of our carbon backwash filters. Installing the carbon filter ahead of the softener also helps protect the resin from chlorine.

Most city water homes don't. The free spin-down pre-filter already catches sand and grit before it reaches your softener. The optional Big Blue final filter installs after the softener and catches fine sediment down to 5 microns — a good choice if your water sometimes looks cloudy or you've found sediment in faucet aerators.

Coverage begins the day we ship your order and applies to the original purchaser when the system is installed and used as directed on city water.
How a claim actually works: if a covered part fails, we ship you a replacement part. No proration, no service call, and no requirement that a professional installed it. We do ask that the failed part be returned to us so we can send it back to the factory — we include a return label, and it needs to reach us within 30 days.
The warranty covers replacement parts, not labor. Normal wear items (O-rings, gaskets, seals) and the resin are not covered.
