PFAS / PFOA / PFOS Carbon Block Filter – 4.5″ x 20″ Big Blue (NSF Certified)

This NSF-certified PFAS carbon block filter cartridge is designed to reduce PFOA and PFOS “forever chemicals” from drinking water at the point of use. Sized to fit standard 4.5″ x 20″ Big Blue housings, it provides an affordable, easy-to-replace solution for under-sink and small residential filtration systems requiring higher flow and longer service life.

Unlike generic carbon cartridges, this filter has been independently tested and certified by IAPMO to NSF/ANSI 53 health-effects standards for PFAS reduction.

    Key Benefits

NSF / IAPMO Certified for PFAS Reduction

Independently tested and certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for the reduction of PFOA and PFOS.

    Targeted PFAS Carbon Block Media

Engineered specifically for adsorption of PFAS compounds, not just taste and odor.

    Cost-Effective PFAS Protection

Lower ongoing replacement cost compared to proprietary PFAS systems.

    Standard Big Blue Size

Fits most 4.5″ x 20″ Big Blue filter housings.

    High Flow for Point-of-Use Systems

Certified flow rate supports higher-demand kitchen and drinking water applications.

    Parallel Installation Capability

Two cartridges may be installed in parallel to increase flow and service life for whole house applications

    Simple DIY Replacement

Drop-in cartridge design requires no special tools.

    What This Filter Reduces

    Certified reduction claims include:

    • PFOA (Perfluorooctanoic Acid)

    • PFOS (Perfluorooctane Sulfonate)

    • Chlorine

    • Taste and odor

    • Sediment and particles down to 1 micron

    IAPMO & NSF Certification

This filter is listed by IAPMO Research and Testing, Inc. as a Water Treatment Product – Health Effects, File No. W-12130. Certification includes:

    • NSF/ANSI 53-2018 – Health effects standard

    • Reduction claims:

    PFOA / PFOS

Total PFAS (per NSF/ANSI 53, Section 7.2.6 protocol)
    • Material safety and structural integrity verified

    • Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®) compliant

Products certified under this program are subject to ongoing surveillance, factory audits, and sample testing to ensure continued compliance.

Certification demonstrates verified performance under standardized laboratory conditions. Actual results may vary based on water quality and usage.

    Certified Performance (Model: FASBG01-B20)

    • Nominal Micron Rating: 1 micron

    • Certified Flow Rate:
      15 LPM (3.96 GPM)

    • Certified Service Capacity:
      48,500 liters / 12,814 gallons
      – Based on NSF/IAPMO test protocols for PFAS and chlorine reduction

    Recommended Applications

    • Under-sink drinking water systems

    • Dedicated kitchen drinking water faucets

    • Small residential homes concerned about PFAS exposure

    • Point-of-use PFAS reduction where whole-house systems are not required

    Increasing Flow Rate (Parallel Configuration)

For higher demand or improved pressure performance, two identical cartridges can be installed in parallel:

    • Increases total available flow

    • Reduces pressure drop

    • Extends effective service life per cartridge

This configuration is ideal for households that want higher flow without upgrading to larger or more expensive PFAS systems.

    Technical Specifications

    • Filter Type: Activated carbon block

    • Dimensions: 4.5″ diameter × 20″ length

    • Operating Pressure: 10–120 psi

    • Operating Temperature: 40°F – 100°F

    • Configuration: DOE / drop-in cartridge

    • Manufacturer: Caware Filtering Corporation

    • Country of Manufacture: Taiwan

    Replacement Guidance

    Filter life depends on:

    • PFAS concentration

    • Chlorine levels

    • Daily water usage

    • Flow rate

For best performance, replace the cartridge when rated capacity is reached or earlier if taste, odor, or flow noticeably changes.

    Why We Carry This Filter

We selected this Caware PFAS carbon block because it combines:

    • Verified NSF/IAPMO PFAS certification

    • Realistic, defensible lifespan claims

    • Standard sizing with no proprietary lock-in

    • Competitive pricing versus resin-based PFAS filters

It delivers credible PFAS reduction without the complexity or cost of specialized systems.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What does this PFAS carbon block filter reduce?

This cartridge is designed and certified for reduction of PFAS compounds including PFOA and PFOS, and also reduces chlorine, taste and odor. It is a 1-micron activated carbon block filter.

    Is this filter NSF certified?

Yes. This product is listed by IAPMO R&T under NSF/ANSI 53 (Health Effects). Certification includes verification of materials safety and applicable structural integrity requirements, along with listed reduction claims.

What size housing does this cartridge fit?

It fits standard 4.5" x 20" Big Blue (DOE / drop-in) filter housings used for under-sink and point-of-use filtration systems.

What is the flow rate for the FASBG01-B20 cartridge?

The rated flow for model FASBG01-B20 is 15 liters per minute (15 LPM), which is approximately 3.96 gallons per minute (GPM).

How long does the filter last?

For model FASBG01-B20, the rated service capacity is 48,500 liters (12,814 gallons). Actual filter life can vary based on PFAS levels, chlorine levels, water quality, and daily water usage.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature?

The maximum operating pressure is 120 psi. The recommended operating temperature range is 40°F to 100°F (4°C to 38°C).

Can I install two filters in parallel for higher flow?

Yes. Installing two identical cartridges in parallel can increase total available flow and reduce pressure drop. This is a common approach when you need higher flow at a kitchen faucet or small point-of-use system.

Is this filter for whole-house water treatment or drinking water?

This cartridge is typically used for point-of-use or under-sink drinking water applications. Some customers use Big Blue housings for broader use, but PFAS protection is often most cost-effective at the drinking water tap.

Does this filter work on well water?

It can be used on well water if the water is microbiologically safe or has been adequately disinfected. Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.

When should I replace the cartridge?

Replace the cartridge when you reach the rated capacity (12,814 gallons) or sooner if flow drops noticeably or taste or odor changes. Replacement timing depends on your water quality, PFAS concentration, and usage.

Will this filter remove all PFAS from my water?

No filter can be guaranteed to remove all PFAS in every situation. This cartridge is certified for reduction of specific PFAS compounds (including PFOA and PFOS) under NSF/ANSI 53 test conditions. Actual performance depends on water chemistry, PFAS levels, flow rate, and remaining filter life.
