Pro-OX Lite Pyrolox Advantage Manganese Dioxide Filter Media

Pro-OX Lite, also known as Pyrolox Advantage, is a lightweight manganese dioxide coated filter media designed to remove iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide, also known as rotten egg odor, from well water.

Pro-OX Lite is commonly used in residential well water systems where iron, manganese, sulfur odors, or combinations of these contaminants are present. It provides excellent filtration performance while requiring lower backwash rates than heavier manganese dioxide media.

Pyrolox Advantage has a 12.5% manganese dioxide coating, which is higher than Katalox Light at approximately 10%, Greensand Plus at approximately 3% to 5%, and Birm, which uses a much lighter catalytic coating and is used under more limited water conditions.

How Pro-OX Lite Works

Pro-OX Lite uses a catalytic oxidation process to convert dissolved iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide into filterable particles that are then removed from the water.

For best results, many systems use aeration, chlorine injection, ozone, or another oxidizing method ahead of the filter. Depending on water chemistry, aeration alone may provide sufficient oxidation.

Pro-OX Lite Replacement Media Sizing Guide

Many older Clean Water Store Pro-OX Lite systems used a blend of Pro-OX Lite and Turbidex. When replacing media, you do not need to use Turbidex. Simply refill the tank with the amount of Pro-OX Lite shown below.

My original system contained Turbidex. Do I need to buy Turbidex again?	No. Many older Clean Water Store Pro-OX Lite systems used a blend of Pro-OX Lite and Turbidex. When replacing the media, simply refill the tank with the recommended amount of Pro-OX Lite. Turbidex is not required.
How many bags of Pro-OX Lite do I need?	Use the sizing chart above to determine how many 1/2 cubic foot bags to order based on your tank size. If you are unsure which tank size you have, contact us and we can help identify it.
Does Pro-OX Lite require chlorine?	Not always. Many systems work well with aeration alone. However, chlorine, ozone, or another oxidizer may improve performance depending on your water chemistry.
