Stainless Steel Ultrafiltration System – 10 GPM
High-Flow Whole-House Ultrafiltration with Bluetooth Backwashing Control
This stainless steel ultrafiltration (UF) system is designed for homeowners who want exceptionally fine filtration without the complexity, wastewater, or pressure loss associated with reverse osmosis. Using a high-quality PVDF ultrafiltration membrane rated to approximately 0.015 microns, this system effectively removes turbidity, fine suspended solids, organic material, and other particulate contaminants while maintaining excellent flow rates of up to 10 gallons per minute.
Unlike many ultrafiltration systems that rely on plastic housings, this unit features a heavy-duty stainless steel pressure vessel for long service life, improved durability, and easy maintenance. The membrane is designed to last 1 to 5 years, depending on inlet water quality and proper pre-filtration, and is easy to access and replace when service is required.
Why Ultrafiltration?
Ultrafiltration provides a powerful level of filtration between standard sediment filters and reverse osmosis systems. It removes particles far smaller than cartridge filters while allowing dissolved minerals to pass through — and without producing continuous wastewater.
Ultrafiltration Benefits
- Removes turbidity and fine suspended solids
- Reduces organic material and colloidal particles
- Filters down to 0.015 microns
- Maintains high flow with minimal pressure loss
- No chemical feed required
- No continuous wastewater like reverse osmosis systems
- Fully automatic backwashing operation
Ultrafiltration is ideal as a standalone whole-house clarity filter or as a pre-treatment stage ahead of carbon filters, softeners, or specialty filtration systems.
High-Quality PVDF Ultrafiltration Membrane
At the core of this system is a PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) ultrafiltration membrane, a material widely used in drinking water and industrial filtration applications because of its excellent chemical resistance, mechanical strength, and fouling resistance.
PVDF membranes are designed to withstand repeated backwash cycles and varying water conditions while maintaining reliable filtration performance. The tight pore structure provides effective particulate removal down to 0.015 microns, while still allowing water and beneficial dissolved minerals to pass through.
With proper pre-filtration, the membrane offers long service life and consistent performance, making it an excellent choice for both well water and municipal water applications.
Heavy-Duty Stainless Steel Housing
The stainless steel pressure vessel provides a significant upgrade over typical plastic-housed ultrafiltration systems.
- Durable stainless steel construction
- Professional installation appearance
- Long-term pressure and temperature stability
- Easy membrane servicing and replacement
- Corrosion-resistant design
This system is well suited for residential mechanical rooms, pump houses, utility rooms, and other demanding installations where durability matters.
Automatic Backwashing with Bluetooth Control Valve
The system includes a 5900BT Bluetooth control valve manufactured in the U.S. by Chandler Systems of Ohio. The valve automatically controls backwashing cycles and allows convenient monitoring and programming directly from your smartphone.
Control Valve Features
- Bluetooth programming and diagnostics
- View system status and backwash history
- Automatic membrane cleaning cycles
- Simple setup and operation
- No Wi-Fi connection required
To properly clean and maintain the ultrafiltration membrane, the system requires a minimum backwash flow rate of 7 gallons per minute (7 GPM). Your well pump or water supply must be capable of delivering at least 7 GPM during the backwash cycle for proper membrane cleaning and long-term performance.
SGS Tested for Drinking Water Material Safety
The ultrafiltration membrane used in this system has been independently tested by SGS, a globally recognized third-party testing and certification organization.
SGS performed material extraction testing in accordance with NSF/ANSI 58 requirements, commonly used to evaluate materials that come into contact with drinking water in membrane-based treatment systems.
The membrane was analyzed for a wide range of potential contaminants, including heavy metals, organic compounds, plasticizers, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
SGS Test Results Summary
- Complies with NSF/ANSI 58 extraction requirements
- Most analytes reported as Not Detected (ND)
- Any trace detections remained below applicable limits
- No unacceptable contaminant increases observed
Note: SGS testing evaluates material safety and confirms the membrane material is suitable for contact with drinking water. It does not evaluate filtration performance claims.

Recommended Pre-Filtration
For best performance and maximum membrane life, we strongly recommend installing a Big Blue sediment pre-filter ahead of the ultrafiltration system.
A dual-grade 25/1 micron sediment filter helps remove larger particles before they reach the UF membrane, reducing fouling and extending service life — especially important for well water or water with visible sediment or turbidity.

- Diameter: Approximately 11.8 inches
Allow approximately 38 inches of vertical clearance and 12 inches of diameter for installation.
Note: This system must be installed vertically and cannot be installed horizontally.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the ultrafiltration membrane last?
With proper pre-filtration using a dual-grade 25/1 micron sediment filter, the membrane typically lasts 1 to 4 years, depending on water quality and operating conditions.
Does this system require a minimum well flow rate?
Yes. The system requires a minimum 7 GPM backwash flow rate to properly clean the membrane during automatic backwash cycles. If your well cannot produce at least 7 gallons per minute during backwash, the membrane may not clean properly, reducing performance and membrane life.
Does this system remove bacteria and viruses?
Ultrafiltration at 0.015 microns is fine enough to physically block bacteria and many viruses based on particle size. However, this system is not certified as a microbiological purifier, so we recommend UV disinfection or chlorination for confirmed bacterial contamination.
Will this remove iron, hardness, or dissolved chemicals?
No. Ultrafiltration removes particulate and suspended matter such as turbidity, sediment, and organic material. It does not remove dissolved contaminants such as hardness minerals, iron, manganese, chlorine, or chemicals.
Does this system require a drain connection?
Yes. The automatic backwash cycle requires a drain connection with an air gap, similar to a water softener or other backwashing filtration system.
The ultrafiltration system backwashes using untreated water. Is that okay?
Yes. This is how most pressure ultrafiltration systems are designed to operate. During the automatic backwash cycle, the system uses the incoming feed water—not the filtered water—to flush accumulated particles from the membrane.
The key is that the feed water should be properly pretreated before it reaches the membrane. If your water contains excessive sediment, install an appropriate sediment prefilter or self-cleaning sediment filter. If your water contains iron or manganese, those contaminants should be removed with an iron filter or other suitable treatment system before the ultrafiltration unit.
When the feed water is properly pretreated, using it for backwashing is normal and helps maintain membrane performance and service life. If your well water has high iron, manganese, heavy sediment, or other unusual water quality issues, contact us and we'll recommend the proper pretreatment before installing the UF system.
Can I install this myself?
Yes. The system uses standard 1" plumbing connections with an integrated bypass, making installation straightforward for homeowners comfortable with basic plumbing work.
Does this work on well water?
Absolutely. Well water is one of the most common applications for this system, especially for homes dealing with turbidity, fine sediment, or tannins that standard cartridge filters struggle to remove.
How does this compare to reverse osmosis?
Ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis serve different purposes. Reverse osmosis removes dissolved contaminants but produces continuous wastewater and typically operates at lower flow rates. Ultrafiltration removes suspended particles and turbidity at whole-house flow rates with minimal pressure loss and very little wastewater.
Can this system be installed horizontally?
No. This system must be installed vertically.
