Description
Viqua VH150 Whole House UV Water Filter System – 5 GPM
The Viqua VH150 is a premium whole house ultraviolet (UV) water disinfection system designed to protect your home's water supply without using chemicals. Rated for flow rates up to 5 gallons per minute, the VH150 is an excellent choice for smaller homes, cabins, vacation homes, cottages, condominiums, and apartments supplied by either private well water or municipal water.
Installed where the main water line enters your home, the VH150 disinfects all the water flowing to every faucet, shower, toilet, and appliance. The system uses high-intensity ultraviolet light to inactivate harmful microorganisms—including bacteria, viruses, and protozoan cysts—without changing the taste, odor, or chemistry of your water.
Unlike chlorine or other chemical disinfectants, UV treatment adds nothing to your water. It simply exposes microorganisms to powerful UV-C light, preventing them from reproducing and causing illness.
Why Choose the Viqua VH150?
- Whole house UV protection for flows up to 5 GPM
- Chemical-free water disinfection
- Compact design fits where larger UV systems won't
- High-output UV lamp provides reliable performance
- Digital controller with lamp life countdown timer
- Audible and visual alarms notify you when lamp replacement is needed
- Constant-current electronic ballast maintains consistent UV output during voltage fluctuations
- Manufactured by Viqua
Effective Against Harmful Microorganisms
When properly sized and installed, the Viqua VH150 helps protect your household water from a wide range of disease-causing microorganisms, including:
- E. coli
- Cryptosporidium
- Giardia lamblia
- Coliform bacteria
- Many waterborne viruses
- Numerous other bacteria and microorganisms
UV disinfection is particularly valuable for private well owners, rural homes, cabins, and anyone wanting an additional layer of protection for drinking water.
Compact Design for Smaller Homes
The VH150 is part of the Viqua HOME Series and is designed for homes with lower water demand. Its high-output lamp allows the reactor chamber to be shorter than many traditional UV systems while still delivering the UV dose needed for effective disinfection.
The compact size makes installation easier in mechanical rooms, utility closets, crawl spaces, and other locations where installation space is limited.
Simple Annual Maintenance
Routine maintenance is easy. The UV lamp should be replaced approximately every 9,000 hours (about once per year) to maintain proper disinfection performance.
The controller continuously monitors lamp operation and includes:
- Digital lamp life countdown display
- Audible reminder when lamp replacement is due
- Lamp failure alarm for added protection
- Reliable constant-current power supply for maximum UV performance
Pre-Filtration Is Important
For best performance, Viqua recommends installing a 5-micron sediment filter ahead of every UV system. Suspended sediment can shield microorganisms from ultraviolet light, reducing disinfection effectiveness.
If your water contains hardness, iron, manganese, or tannins above recommended levels, pretreatment may also be required before the UV system. Contact one of our water treatment specialists if you have questions about your water quality.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Viqua VH150 remove bacteria?
Yes. The VH150 inactivates bacteria, viruses, and protozoan cysts using ultraviolet light. It does not remove minerals, sediment, or dissolved contaminants—it disinfects the water.
Will UV treatment change the taste or smell of my water?
No. UV light disinfects the water without adding chemicals or changing the taste, odor, pH, or mineral content.
Can I use this system with well water?
Yes. The VH150 is commonly installed on private well water systems. Water should be properly filtered before entering the UV system for maximum effectiveness.
Do I need a sediment filter?
Yes. A 5-micron sediment filter is strongly recommended ahead of every UV system to ensure the ultraviolet light can effectively reach microorganisms in the water.
How often is maintenance required?
The UV lamp should be replaced once every year (approximately every 9,000 hours). The quartz sleeve should be inspected and cleaned whenever the lamp is replaced.
What size home is this designed for?
The VH150 is ideal for smaller homes, cabins, cottages, condominiums, and vacation homes with peak flow rates up to 5 gallons per minute.
