J-PRO-38 Soda Ash System with Solution Tank

Neutralize acidity and reduce corrosion in pipes and equipment

    • The complete system includes a soda ash pump, solution tank, injection check valve, tubing, and fittings.
    • Just mix soda ash powder with warm, soft, or pure water, then add it to the solution tank; it's easy to do and lasts for several months.
    • Uses readily available soda ash powder (sodium carbonate), safe and certified for drinking water use.
    • Heavy-duty metering pump systems are designed to last for many years with minimal maintenance.
    • Choose model 110V or 220v 50/60hz.
    • Works over a wide range of water flow rates for most home water wells.
    • Good for well water flow rates from 1 to 40 Gallons Per Minute. Contact us for systems for higher flow rates over 40 GPM.
    • Pumps 3 to 38 gallons of solution per day.
    • Works for line pressures up to 110 PSI.
    • Low power consumption: uses only 22 watts or 0.2 amps.

    system dimensions

What size solution tank should I order?

    • We recommend the 25 or 50 gallon tank.
    • Most of our customers use 5 to 10 gallons soda ash solution per month.

Should I add a Flow Switch, or should I choose a Proportional Flow Meter?

Many customers skip the flow switch and flow meter and just wire directly to the well pump circuit. Choose a 220V model (most wells pump systems are 220V) unless you know your well pump is 110V (not typical).

Every time the well pump turns on, the J-PRO-38 pump turns on and injects a small, precise amount of soda ash solution into your pipe before the pressure tank. In this installation type, the injection point must be before your pressure tank and you have the standard well pump that turns on at (for example) 40 PSI and off at 60 PSI.

OR: Use a flow switch and choose the 110V model J-PRO-38. This allows you to skip electrical wiring. If you have a 110V wall outlet nearby, just plug the flow switch's pre-wired cord in to the wall outlet. 1" Indoor Pre-Wired Flow Switch.

Plumb in the flow switch between the well pump and pressure tank, and install the injection point on same line. If using a flow switch, the injection point and flow switch must be before the pressure tank to get accurate dosing each time.

OR: Use the proportional flow meter option and 110V model. This allows you to install the injection point AFTER the pressure tank. Simply install the flow meter with cable anywhere after the pressure tank. Plug the cable from the flow switch into the J-PRO-38 cable port. Plug the J-PRO-38 metering pump into a 110V wall outlet.

Now, every time you have flow, the metering pump will turn on and pump more or less chlorine into the pipe based on flow. This also works well if you are on a community water system or have irrigation needs. Our rugged flow meters last for many years with no maintenance and are easy to clean if you have water high in rust and sediment.

What type of soda ash should I use?

We recommend using NSF certified soda ash powder and mixing it with purified RO water or soft water.

Should I use a contact retention tank?

In most cases it works better to use a 15 or 30 gallon contact tank.  Contact Retention Tanks allow the soda ash to mix and blend with the water and give a moment or two for the pH to adjust.

    You can find them here.

Should I use a static mixer?

An inline static mixer allows for rapid mixing of the soda ash as well. Install after injection point but before a contact tank for optimum results. Static mixers do not take the place of a contact tank which serves both as a mixing tank and gives retention time so the soda ash can work.

    You can find them here.

What is the warranty? How long do these systems last?

    • The system includes a one year manufacturer warranty.
    • You can usually expect 4 to 6 years life however all components are serviceable and replaceable.
    • Use purified or soft water to make up your solution and follow recommended routine maintenance for best results.

3 Ways To Set Up Your Soda Ash Injection System To Turn On Automatically:

Additional detailed printed installation instructions are included with each order.

Option 1: WIRE TO WELL PUMP PRESSURE SWITCH

Wire to your well's pressure switch. This is the lowest cost method. Simply install a dedicated wall outlet that is wired into the existing pressure switch and powered whenever the well pump turns on (and off). This ensures the soda ash pump runs only when the well pump is operating.

    Option 2: PRE-WIRED FLOW SWITCH

Install a pre-wired flow switch. This makes installation fast and easy. No electrical wiring is required and any plumber, or person familiar with basic plumbing, can install the soda ash injection system. No electrician required.

Simply install the pre-wired flow switch. Plug the flow switch into a standard 120V wall outlet. Then plug the soda ash metering pump into the electrical outlet on the flow switch. Whenever there is water flow, the metering pump will turn on automatically.

Option 3: PROPORTIONAL - FEED FLOW METER TYPE

Select the Pulse Water Meter option. This is a proportional-feed type of installation. It is very easy to set up and requires no electrical wiring or electrician. A flow meter (water meter with electrical cable connected to the metering pump) is installed which triggers the soda ash pump based on actual water flow.

When there is water flow through the meter, the pump will inject a programmed amount of soda ash solution into each gallon as it passes, regardless of flow rate.

Simply install the flow meter and connect the cable to the metering pump. Plug the pump into a standard 120V wall outlet. When the water flows, the pump adjusts injection automatically based on flow rate.

NOTE: Unlike Option 1 and Option 2, the injection check valve is installed AFTER the pressure tank. This option also allows you to inject soda ash after a lateral line to irrigation or any line you do not want to treat.

Can I install this myself? Can I have my plumber or handyman install it?

    • Yes, you can install it yourself, however a local plumber or handyman can also install it for you.
    • In addition to the easy to read manual, we also have youtube videos that walk you through the installation below.
    • To make it easier for a plumber or handyman to install we recommend the optional Schedule 80 PVC Injection Tee (see drop down menu).
    • If you want to avoid having to do any wiring we recommend the proportional feed or flow switch options.
    • The chlorinator typically takes about 2 - 3 hours to install.

    Solution-Tank Options and Dimensions

Choose from four heavy-duty polyethylene solution-tank sizes. Dimensions shown include the J-PRO-38 pump mounted on the tank and are listed as approximate width × overall height.

    Solution-Tank Capacity Approximate Overall Dimensions
    10 Gallons 14 inches wide × 24 inches high
    15 Gallons 16 inches wide × 29 inches high
    25 Gallons 18 inches wide × 32.5 inches high
    50 Gallons 22 inches wide × 41.5 inches high

Tank-size recommendation: The 15-gallon or 25-gallon tank is recommended for most home well-water applications. Most residential systems do not require the 50-gallon tank. Mix only enough fresh solution to last approximately 4 to 8 weeks. Rinse the tank periodically and replace solution regularly to prevent biological growth.

Calibration note: Actual chemical output can vary with line pressure, suction lift, solution viscosity, tubing condition, and pump settings. Verify treated water pH at the tap using a pH test strip or meter after calibration and adjust injection rate as needed to reach the 7.0 to 8.0 target range.
